Immigrants Seek Loans From Mexico

Journal Gazette (03/17/08); Moreno, Ivan
Cross-border mortgage companies are offering Mexicans in the United States the opportunity to buy homes in their homeland. Arlin Gonzalez, a 31-year-old teacher's aide, turned to Su Casita, or "Your Little House," after she sold her home in the Denver area because she could no longer afford the mortgage payments following a divorce. The Denver-based company offered Gonzalez a fixed-rate loan that finances up to 90 percent of property's cost and requires a down payment of at least 10 percent. Gonzalez, who currently rents in Denver, will pay $400 a month for 15 years for her home in northern Mexico.
