Consider inspecting before listing

An inspector’s seal of approval gives sellers a competitive edge

by Bonnie Biafore

In a buyer’s market, sellers must work hard to attract house hunters’ attention and then follow through to keep them interested. House shoppers are savvy, well-informed and nervous about trends in real estate, so they ask for the moon. One way to compete is to hire a home inspector before you put your home on the market. By identifying and handling issues ahead of time, you can entice more buyers and help seal the deal.

Seller-requested home inspections are so beneficial that Nick Gromicko, founder of the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors, predicts: “By 2009, all home inspectors will be working for sellers.”
